Migration Gravel Race

The Migration Gravel Race is a semi-supported, four-day gravel stage race across the wilds of the Maasai Mara, Kenya. The 650 km / 8000m altitude route courses over single track, red clay and hard packed gravel, traversing through Maasai villages, plains, rivers, mountains and across big game country. Participants are accommodated in remote camps and lodges in the nature reserve, accompanied by local Maasai members.

Beyond carrying riders through the unbelievable landscapes of the Mara, the Migration Gravel Race is part of the broader AMANI project—an initiative aimed at creating equitable racing opportunities for East African cyclists. While called an international sport, cycling remains far from inclusive; both in the World Tour as well as the emerging pro gravel scene, the African continent is still very much underrepresented.

The AMANI project operates in close collaboration with local partners in Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda, creating opportunities for local talent to measure themselves with the best via online racing, and by bringing gravel racing to East Africa with the Migration Gravel Race.

By putting on this race, AMANI and partners bring an international field of competitors to the country, instead of the other way around. This way, Kenyans get the opportunity to really shine on an international level but in their home country, for their home crowd.
